I'm sure many of us (myself included) are really tired of running into people completely butchering character identity (or even real life people's identity) to the point it's not even the same person anymore.-And that's exactly what fan-made slash, yaoi, yuri, some enemy ships, and some incest ships do with human sexuality. Depressed Emote

First off, human sexuality does NOT determine personality, however human sexuality DOES determine human identity and the unique experiences that come with that identity (just like ethnicity, gender, and culture do). It's only logical to honor this aspect as being central to whom we are as human beings. After all, human sexuality...which is a part of our human identity, is something that cannot be altered easily.

But despite that, some people keep replacing human sexuality regardless. It's common knowledge that you cannot change a person from gay to straight, straight to gay, lesbian to asexual literally overnight. Human Sexuality isn't a pair of clothes you can swap out. It's a LIFELONG part of us. Just like culture, ethnicity, and other traits are: you cannot change these aspects like a pair of pants like I've seen so many people do on here. And it's downright selfish to change a person into something they're not...especially when it comes to their human identity (because each one has a lifetime attachment to us, it's own culture, and own aspects).

EX. Let's say Sarah is a lesbian African American woman who is shy. These traits of her human identity give her a different and unique experience in life overall than a woman named Lizzie who is Chinese, asexual, and shy.

Society's gay, trans, lesbian, asexual, straight, and other cultures are not the same whether you'd like to believe it or not. This is because they each have their own communities, movements, and support systems that're different and unique from each other, so you can't assume their experiences would be exactly the same over their lifetimes. :eager:

No part of our human identity will have the same experiences or behave in the same way as anyone else's human identity (because society has their own subcultures for them and this is an honest truth). Just go visit San Francisco's lgbta culture, it's completely different to Southern Los Angeles's lgbta culture. The point here is, there are even differences WITHIN the same gay culture from one city to another.

So assuming that changing a character or real life person's sexuality wouldn't change them as a person is highly ignorant. Each sexuality has a different experience, culture, and community associated with them, and changing their human sexuality changes their human identity. Just like changing a person's ethnicity, culture, or gender would alter it as well.

Not only that, but when people do replace or alter another's human sexuality, they are ALWAYS projecting their own falsified fantasies onto others of how THEY want them to be, and not whom they actually are. :(

If a person or character's sexuality is known and confirmed (like the female characters in Sailor Moon, two of whom are known to be lesbian) then respect it! :]

Like for another example Sherlock Holmes (whom is an asexual non-romantic). He's a genius detective whose sole drive in life is solving cases (there's pretty much 0 romance on his mind). But what do we see? Biased people completely ignoring his journey & detective work so they can self-project a forced romance on him with his friend Dr. Watson...and turning it into pointless fluff for the "kawaii" factor even though it's a freaking detective show. <-By doing this people are inputting their own self-projection of sexuality on his human identity, and are therefore changing him to suit their needs. :/

Well I support the asexual non-romantically driven Sherlock, because well...that's who he is! Self-projecting a changed sexuality on ANYONE to suit your needs is highly biased, ignorant, and selfish. Don't change a part of someone's human identity just b/c it's 'hawt' or cute'. People should be accepted for whom they are originally, and not what YOU want them to be.

This was in response to some misinformed guy who said changing human sexuality doesn't change people. Well that guy is wrong.

*Altering ANY part of human identity, whether it's ethnicity, sexuality, gender, or culture will ALWAYS drastically change someone into something else, don't pretend that it doesn't otherwise. We all have different cultures and different experiences because of them, which makes us unique from each other, and that should be acknowledged.
